Suited Up For NYFW:M
This week we kicked off NYFW:M SS 17!
(New York Fashion Week: Mens Spring/Summer 2017)
I know it’s crazy to already think about Summer of NEXT year, but that’s how fashion works! We’re wearing clothes designers thought about a year and a half ago while they’re already living in year.
This marked the third season New York has hosted a dedicated Men’s week…. and it was a busy one! A lot more presentations this year rather than full on runway shows, but there were some definite themes running through the collections: bold stripes, bold color, graphic print and a wave of beach vibes washing over half the collections. Pleats are here for another year and so are dress shorts.
I’m investing in anything indigo dyed. Cuz, yes please.
If you missed it on my Snapchat (themodernotter), you can see it all using #NYFWM on pretty much any social platform.
For my first look during fashion week, I teamed up with Gordon Rush to polish up my game a bit. Their cognac oxfords paired perfectly with this burgundy suit from Narval New York and floral shirt from Club Monaco.
Since it’s hot as hell outside, I had my tailor crop the pants above my ankle. It’s adds ease to the look and you really get credit for the shoes. I love the way the cognac color pops and brings out the lighter tones in the floral shirt. I even tied it in with the light brown color in the frame of the sunglasses.
Details count, after all. ;)
Overall, super polished.
Don’t be dissuaded by burgundy in the Summer. It was all over the runway this week! The key is to style it with a “Summer sensibility”. Like this floral shirt and cropped pant hem, or wear a burgundy tank top with burgundy trousers (as seen in the Todd Snyder collection).
At the end of the day, it’s all in how you wear it. Wear it with confidence and you’re golden.
