Zero to Hero
Dapper <------> Street
It's a sliding scale these days and you can often be on both ends of the style spectrum at once.
So how would you describe your personal style?
When asked that question, I have a hard time answering. Everyone in fashion seems to look for key words to lock your particular style into a single sentence (street, dapper, urban, polished, editorial, mainstream). It's just not that easy. Some days I feel like a suit and tie and some days I feel like sweats and a beanie. Being locked into a single style sounds so limiting.
Don't get me wrong, I believe you can dress on all parts of the spectrum and still have a single style POV. You must have a lens to filter your outfit choices. There wouldn't be a "Modern Otter" without a distinct point of view, but there is nothing wrong with branching out every now and again. I wear things today that I would not have worn a year ago. It's less a question of 'how would you describe your style' and more a question of 'what inspires your style'? Where do you look for inspiration? How do you mix different elements? What do you look for in your clothing?
I personally think of the term "dapper" as a blazer and tie. Something clean and polished. Always pulled together. "Street" style is more easy going. In my head it's usually with sneakers and a hat, but these days couture can be 'street' so there are really no restrictions on the aesthetic. It's just... laid back... Like you threw on whatever was around you and look fantastic. Dapper is a little more calculated. But really, who cares?
Today I was feeling street. Who know how I'll feel tomorrow?

P.S. If you're not up on the Rag & Bone game, you need to be. They have found the perfect mashup of street style and 'dapper' wear. Clean yet always easy going. I'd wear them everyday if I could. Check out more of their goods below. They're basically everything.
Rag & Bone number shirt / Banana Republic topcoat (old) and joggers / Club Monaco cardigan and beanie / Saucony sneakers
