Trend Report: The Bomber Jacket
2016 is the year of the bomber jacket!
It’s not all sage green M1-A bombers anymore (think WWII fighter pilot). The trend has spread to a million different styles and fabrications. From embroidered silk, to shearling, it has crossed gender divides and transcended seasons! Basically, it’s your go-to for all things casual and cool and you’re already behind the times if you don’t own one. ;)
To dive deeper into the trend, I partnered with American Eagle Outfitters to highlight the key styles worth knowing.
What makes a bomber a bomber? Most notably, the ribbed wrists and waist band. That’s why a baseball jacket and a leather jacket can both be ‘bombers’.
Those embroidered “signature” jackets you saw all over the place this Summer? Yup. Those are bombers too.
For today’s look, I paired AEO’s Active Flex Bomber Jacket with a twill shirt and ribbed turtleneck for some casual Fall layering. I’m obsessed with turtlenecks (in case you couldn’t tell from my Insta), and I took the styling up a notch by wearing it under my twill shirt. This only works if the turtleneck is thin— you shouldn’t try it with that cashmere one from a few posts ago.
Fun fact: Google searches for bombers went up 612 percent in the US in 2016. What search also went up? Ripped denim.
Here are four AEO styles you should check out:
-Active (super stretchy)
-Military (classic M1-A)
-Aviator (that sherpa collar tho)
-Varsity (play ball!)
So whether you’re flying a plane, riding the trend, or just want a practical and versatile jacket, there’s a style for you.
Or styles… tbh, I have like 3 already...
Can’t stop, won’t stop!
