I was in Vegas two weeks ago and wore cropped pants similar to the ones above and you’d think I was wearing the craziest outfit anyone had ever seen!

“Did you see his pants? They were like 9 inches too short!”

I mean… I get it. It’s a little outside the box from traditional Menswear, but Menswear on a whole can be so boring! Pants, shirts, jackets, blazers. It’s all the same. Even when you update detailing, it’s still the same idea.

So every once in awhile, you have to play with proportion. Just look at the runways during New York Fashion Week: Men’s. Skinny pants are going out of style again and being replaced with wide leg and tapered trousers. Suits are getting roomier and trench coats have drop shoulders. Designers are taking more liberties with tailoring, so what’s a few inches off a pant cuff?

This season, I set out to find a LONG coat. One that reached my knees. All my other coats hit my waist or mid-thigh. A long coat, like this one from Rag & Bone, really makes a statement. It polishes off a suit for a dapper night out, but you look just as chic with a t-shirt and jeans. It’s different (and cooler) than your traditional topcoat.

The combo of a high turtleneck, and long coat and short pants is really what I find interesting. It’s unexpected. They’re still tailored slim (cuz that’s how I roll), but the proportions are un-conventional. It’s not boring.

What do you think about cropped pants? Yay or nay?
