Bullitt

I have three rules for a perfect road trip:

1) drive the coolest car you can find

2) ALWAYS take the scenic route

3) curate an incredible playlist, roll the windows down and turn the volume up

I was invited out to Southern California recently to experience one of those ‘perfect road trips’ with Bang & Olufsen and Ford.

Bang & Olufsen is a Danish audio brand best known for their luxury in-home speaker systems. They have everything from wireless in-ear bluetooth speakers, to $100,000 audio towers that look more like sculptures than speakers. Their mantra is to make products that utilize the BEST technology available. Not necessarily the newest, but the best. That way, the products you invest in won’t be obsolete in a few years. Quality stands the test of time.

I knew about Bang & Olufsen because of their design-forward aesthetic. Their speakers are like works of art (and they actually just released a wall-mounted tile audio system that is customizable and looks exactly like an art instillation. It’s ridiculously cool). What I did not know though, is each season they release a number of their smaller products in seasonal colors that follow trends in the fashion industry. Their Fall colors include: limestone, blue steel, dark plum and moss green. All the subtle and chic colors we saw in the AW18 runways.

I also didn’t know that a lot of the cars I have driven lately have Bang & Olufsen, or their parent company Harman’s, audio systems in them. Hence this trip…

Bang & Olufsen is now available in a whole bunch of Ford models, so we set out down the California coastline in one of their coolest cars, the Ford Mustang Bullitt. “Bullitt” was the name of a Steve McQueen movie in 60’s. In the film, McQueen races a Mustang through the streets of San Fransisco in an epic car chase. Flash forward to today, and Ford has re-invented the Mustang from the film and dubbed it the Mustang Bullitt. It’s a gorgeous car, and made simply for the joy of driving. The dark green color is also right up my alley.

So we set off!

We drove down the coast in Orange County, stopped in the harbor for some lunch and then raced through the California hills to wine country in Temecula. We handed over our keys and ended our trip with a winery tour and tasting. It was a perfect day trip, accompanied by a great playlist and great company.
