Stay, To Get Away

End-Of-Summer Getaway, With SWISSGEAR | The Modern Otter

An End-of-Summer Getaway with SWISSGEAR

I wasn’t able to take a proper beach vacation this Summer (which is prob for the best, since my beach bod is def NOT ready), but I have been itching to get out of my house and go somewhere!

All work and no travel make Aaron a dull boy.

The thing is, flights are expensive, trains are a pain in the ass and I don’t know what a Jitney is, but i hear it takes forever.

Fortunately, I live next to one of the biggest tourist destinations on the planet, so why not take advantage of that?! With hotel apps these days, you can book a weekend NYC vacation anytime you want for pretty cheap!

It’s probably one of my favorite things to do with Mike when we’re bored and need a break from our usual routine. We have stayed all over the city over the years and it’s a great way to find new restaurants and explore parts of the city we rarely go.

Feels like a vacation, even though we’re only a few subway stops away.

To help us escape our day-to-day, I partnered up with SWISSGEAR to show you how I pack for a last minute staycation and to challenge you to make the most of what little Summer we have left with your own getaway!

First thing to know: I always pack way more than I need (or at least more than most normal people). I’m a blogger, so everywhere I go I turn into a photo shoot. If it’s a Saturday, prob 3 photoshoots with 3 different outfits. Totally normal.

That said, I need versatility in luggage. A duffel bag just won’t cut it. This suitcase is the SWISSGEAR 24” Hardside Spinner. The grey color was right up my alley, so I picked up the full collection (three sizes: 20”, 24” and 28”). It’s the perfect size for a week long trip (or a weekend if you change several times per day). The 20” is a great carryon and the 28” is great if you’re on a 3 month cruise, like Levitate Style, or heading to Iceland in October, like someone else I know. ;)

Let me tell you how obsessed I am with 360 degree spinner wheels. I have lugged duffel bags all over the world and nothing is more amazing than pushing a suitcase around with hardly any effort. Sign me up, forever.

Ok, back to how I actually pack:

I separate out my clothing from everything else. This SWISSGEAR suitcase has a mesh panel on one side that zips closed, so I use that side for my shoes, dopp kit, camera equipment, etc. I always use shoe bags. Always. Shoes touch nasty pavement every day. You don’t want that rubbing up against your clothing. That’s gross.

The other side of the suitcase is for clothing. I usually stack my pants on one side, shirts on the other, and then surround them with accessories. Sometimes I’ll group outfits together when packing, but generally I stick to a tight color palette when traveling so everything will pair well together. Makes for easy last minute style changes.

And that’s basically it! Organization and a sleek color palette.

Now it’s your turn! Share how you pack and where you’re going using #SWISSGEAR. If you're heading to the beach, I'm super jealous. Get in those Summer getaways while you still can!
