Otter Expedition: W Punta de Mita, Mexico
I love a beach vacation, particularly in the middle of winter, and I couldn’t have asked for a better escape than the W Punta De Mita.
Just a short drive outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the W is like an oasis tucked between the hills and beach. They recently went through a huge renovation, turning the quirky W hotel concept into a luxury destination. We were able to check out a few of the different room types. Their jungle rooms are nestled into the tree line, making them incredibly private. The rooms below (just behind the bird) have patios overlooking a spring-fed pond and Mesa1, a private dining venue with only one table, that’s only accessible via steppingstones that emerge from the water and disappear once you take your seat.
The last room type (which we spent most of our time in) are the ocean view suites, which come with private plunge pools and incredible views. I mean, there’s no such thing as a mediocre room in this place. All of them are incredible!
To be honest, we did VERY little once we got to the hotel.
Mike and I laid by the pool all day. Ate. Drank. Occasionally went to the spa (which also has an incredible jungle pool itself), and relaxed! It was incredible. There are multiple restaurants on the property, including a Spice Market by Jean-George Vongerichten, so there’s really no reason to leave. We did get massages, which you can choose to get right on the beach if you’d like. The hotel has a full time surf instructor and you can book a number of water activities directly with them.
BTW, these shorts are my latest obsession. I found them on Amazon for $25. They come in 16 different colors and four different lengths! They run a size big, but if you go down, they’re a dream. I bought 5 colors in the 5” inseam and will probably stock up on more before summer.
