Otter Review: Baxter of CA
Continuing my Otter Review series, I'm focusing on one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE brands: Baxter of California.
(I clearly love them, because my cabinets are stocked with Baxter)
I was turned on to them right before I started blogging three years ago and have been hooked ever since. Beyond the fact that the packaging makes for a really great photo, the products themselves are fantastic. The facial scrub has walnut to exfoliate your skin rather than plastic beads or some chemical nonsense. The clay mask is made from actual clay. The shaving formula is just the right amount of solid and frothy. I just can't say enough. They're even carried by Club Monaco, so you know they're cool.
All of the products pictured above are part of my daily/weekly routine:
- Facial Scrub
- Under Eye Complex
- Super Close Shave Formula
- Badger Shave Brush
- Clay Mask
- Clay Pomade (back when I had hair long enough to use product)
I'll be honest. The Baxter of CA safety razor does freak me out a little. I can't handle an old school razor with just a single blade. I'd totally Sweeney Todd my neck. I use a Harry's razor but use the Baxter Badger Brush with the Baxter Shave Formula. The badger brush makes me feel like an adult, in a way that blue shave gel from an aluminum bottle never could.
Something I'm just now getting into: the Baxter of CA body wash. I'm usually a Dove Men + Care body wash guy (currently using the Charcoal + Clay one), but I'm really into these scents. The citrus body wash is a nice spring smell, like rubbing a fruit basket all over your body.
Downside: all that natural goodness is a bit pricy (as all good grooming seems to be). The entire Baxter of CA lineup is available on Birchbox.com and if you want to try before you buy, I'd recommend nabbing the Baxter of California Test Drive Kit (pictured above). It's like a sampler platter of some of Baxter's best products and it's only $10.
Check em out and report back. You'll be hooked before you know it.
As part of my ongoing Otter Review Series, I'm teaming up with BirchboxMan to do a monthly unboxing. If you aren't familiar, Birchbox is a subscription brand that sends you a box of grooming, lifestyle and tech gadgets once a month. It's catered to your personal grooming and style profile and is seriously awesome.
It was my favorite way to discover new grooming and skincare brands in my early blogging days. I'm happy to say I'm familiar with a lot more brands these days, and can probably give you the rundown on the 100's of products Birchbox carries.
They have a few different plans. I like giving subscriptions as gifts for the holidays because it's the gift that keeps on giving. You can check em out and sign up here.
This month was all about a spring refresh, with cologne from English Laundry (my partner, Mike's, favorite scent), detox soap, Kiehls facial scrub and a few desk accessories.
**This post was not sponsored by Baxter of CA or BirchboxMan, but the product was kindly gifted. If you happen to use the links, I would make a small commission on your purchase. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own, as always!
