When people ask how I define my style, I usually say “elevated casual-wear”. Basic pieces with interesting details and that have a constant look of ease, even if I’m dressed up. It’s a fine line to walk though. I don’t want to look schlepy, but I also want to be comfortable. Prime example: these are knit trousers. My partner calls them sweatpants, but they have elevated details and look like proper trousers from far away. They DO have a drawstring waist though… so they basically are sweatpants… I hate the term ‘athleisure’, so we’ll just say they’re sporty.

Pair them with a cashmere sweater and a tailored bomber though, and it’s something just above running to get coffee, and just below an afternoon office meeting.

I’d ditch the hat if I had an actual meeting to go to.

The same principle goes for my shoes. I wear sneakers most of the time, but they’re always ‘clean’. I.e. absent of logos, bright colors and flashy details. They go with everything from suits to sweatpants. The key is to keep them simple!

These Kenneth Cole New York sneakers I picked up on Zappos are simple by appearance, but complex in their detail. I love the shiny patent leather upper and the large white sole. They’re elevated, but still easy going. I might not wear them with a tux (patent leather oxfords are the quintessential tux shoe), but I could wear them with a black suit and a sweater and look great. Here, they give an added kick of style to my ‘sweatpants’ look. It’s all about the highs and lows!

I really only wear tall socks in the middle of Winter when I’m wearing boots. 95% of the time I wear no-show socks, even in the Fall. I just like the look of a little ankle! It’s smart without trying too hard.

Kenneth Cole New York is definitely helping my ankle game with their new 37.5 technology. Your core body temperature is 37.5 degrees celsius, so Kenneth Cole created shoes that maintain that temperature no matter how hot or cold it is outside. They wick moisture away during the summer to keep your feet cool and maintain your natural temp in the dead of winter. It’s pretty cool, and they new offer it in a ton of styles in their current collection. You can even find Techni-cole dress shoes, if that’s what you’re into. ;)
